Commander Kenneth Hungerford of Hayes-Velhage Post 96 and Chairman of the 2008 West Hartford Memorial Day Parade Committee announced the appointment of Secretary of the State Susan Bysewicz as the Honorary Parade Marshal of the 2008 West Hartford Memorial Day Parade.

The parade is scheduled for Monday, May 26, 2008. It will start at 10 a.m. from the corner of Woodrow Street and Farmington Avenue. The parade proceeds east on Farmington Ave. and turns onto South Main Street and continues into the parking lot of the West Hartford Town Hall where it ends.

Chief Master Sergeant Daniel Coppinger of the Connecticut Air National Guard will lead the parade as the Parade Marshal. In making this appointment, Commander Hungerford said: “We are honored to have Chief Coppinger lead the parade. He typifies the best of West Hartford as a member of the West Hartford Police Department and as a career Connecticut Air National Guardsman who returned in March 2008 from a year’s deployment to Afghanistan.”

Immediately following the parade, a memorial service will be held at the Veterans' Memorial located at the intersection of Farmington Avenue and North Main Street. Secretary of the State Susan Bysewicz will be the keynote speaker.
